From the beginning...
Lucy Freegard set up Mama Leopard in January 2020, to combine her creativity with giving back (each year, 10% of profits go to the Avon Wildlife Trust). Lucy is a primary school teacher, children's book author-illustrator and designer-maker.
She uses a combination cork fabric, textile off-cuts, hand-drawn details and Sterling Silver - to create sustainable, vegan and lightweight earrings + accessories in limited editions / one-offs.
Nature and the flora & fauna around us inspire all things Mama Leopard. Lucy's products are made for people + the planet. Our packaging is 100% eco-friendly.
Why we chose cork fabric
Cork is 100% natural, renewable and recyclable.
Cork fabric comes from the bark of the cork oak tree; no trees are cut down during harvesting because the bark regenerates - and by doing so it absorbs 3-5 more CO2 than non-harvested trees. Cork trees offset millions of tons of carbon every year!
At Mama Leopard, we source high-quality, handcrafted, PETA-approved Portuguese cork fabric.
We also work with cork fabric scraps and textile off-cuts, destined for the bin, which have been kindly donated to us by other makers to reduce waste.
