From the beginning...
Lucy Freegard set up Mama Leopard - a nod to her trendy mum - in January 2020, to combine her creativity with giving back. Lucy is a children's book author, illustrator, designer and jewellery maker.
She uses a combination of elements - cork fabric, textile off-cuts, hand-drawn details and Sterling Silver - to create sustainable, vegan and lightweight earrings + accessories in limited editions or as one-offs.
Nature and the flora & fauna around us inspire all things Mama Leopard. Lucy's products are made for people + the planet and our packaging is 100% recycled, recyclable or biodegradable.
Each year, 10% of profits go to the Avon Wildlife Trust.
Why we chose cork fabric
Cork is 100% natural, renewable and recyclable.
Cork fabric comes from the bark of the cork oak tree; no trees are cut down during harvesting because the bark regenerates - and by doing so it absorbs 3-5 more CO2 than non-harvested trees. Cork trees offset millions of tons of carbon every year!
At Mama Leopard, we source high-quality, handcrafted, PETA-approved Portuguese cork fabric. We also work with cork fabric scraps and textile off-cuts (destined for the bin), which have been kindly donated to us by other makers to reduce waste.
